Mt Fuji Loop: Fuji Five Lakes & Asagiri Highlands
Circle Mt Fuji by car in 1–2 days: Fuji Five Lakes, Asagiri highlands and 7 michi-no-eki with the mountain in view almost the whole way.
You can drive all the way around Mt Fuji in a single day — but the point of this loop is to stop. The road threads the Fuji Five Lakes on the Yamanashi side, crosses the open dairy country of the Asagiri plateau, and drops toward Suruga Bay, with the mountain filling the windshield for most of it.
The michi-no-eki here are some of the busiest in Japan for a reason: Narusawa has a direct lava-cave and Fuji viewpoint, Asagiri Kogen is famous for soft-serve from its own herds, and Subashiri sits at the foot of the eastern trailhead with an onsen next door. Start early — parking lots near Kawaguchiko fill by mid-morning in season.
