What is a michi-no-eki?
Michi-no-eki (道の駅, “roadside stations”) are government-designated rest stops found all over Japan — more than 1,100 of them. Expect free parking, spotless 24-hour restrooms, local food and farmers’ markets, and often an onsen hot spring. They’re one of the best-kept secrets of driving in Japan, yet most guides are Japanese-only. MichiStops maps every station in English.
